Columbus Production Forum 01

Columbus Production Forum 01 from Ohio HD on Vimeo.

This year I have had many opportunities to spend time with my production friends in non-work situations. So… what do we end up talking about? You guessed it… Work. A few months ago I got the idea that it would be great to capture these conversations and share them with the production community at large in hopes creating more conversations and a greater sense of community and collaboration that can help us all. It is an exciting and challenging time to be involved in production. There are so many new tools and ways to approach the work that didn’t even exist 5 years ago. With the onset of HD, new “cine” tools, solid state workflows, lens adapters, and cameras like the RED, our clients have more choices than ever. And while this creates a lot of opportunity it has also created a lot of confusion. Before you even power the camera up we have to have conversations about 1080i, 720p, 16×9, 4×3, 24p, 60i, 30p, SxS, P2 and on and on.

The initial discussions focus on the shoot side of the business with a DP round table. Although initially, this as was put together as a DP forum, I want to expand it to audio, grip, art department and post workflows. And then some cross discipline discussion that will help production and post have a better understanding of each other’s needs.

Thanks for watching and thanks to Brainstorm Media, Beth Edwards and all who helped make this forum a success!

Columbus Production Forum date changed to June 30th.

I have a had a lot of great response and interest in the upcoming Columbus Production Forums.  I am encouraged to see so much excitement.  Due to schedule conflicts with certain participants and the studio we have had to push the forum back by one week to June 30th.  I will be contacting those who have been chosen to participate in the 1st forum by June 25th.  For the first forum we are trying to keep participation somewhat small, so we can learn how to grow it in the future.  This is an invitation only event although the videos and content will be freely available.  Please post comments and questions here if there is any topic that you would like to have covered in the 1st forum.

Thanks for all the interest!

Ohio HD Video adds Panasonic HD/SD Multi-format Switcher

Ohio HD Video, a video rental house in Columbus, OH, has purchased Panasonic’s AV-HS400 multiformat video switcher to support multicamera production for its event, corporate and broadcast clients.

The HS400 switcher integrates into existing HD/SD workflows — mixing HD and SD video sources. The switcher includes a built-in multiviewer for multi-image preview, an expandable HD/SD architecture with full 10-bit HD processing, 3-D digital effects, chroma key, an independent aux bus, and PIP.

The switcher can mix many signal types — accepting SD, HD and computer inputs — and can output virtually any kind of signal for projection or broadcast. It is all-digital with frame synchronizers that can eliminate the need for traditional genlock and timing adjustments. The user turns the switcher on and no other setup is required other than white balancing the cameras.

The switcher’s multiviewer function dramatically reduced the size of the equipment packages Ohio HD needed to bring to assignments. With the multiviewer, users can output four, six or 10 images from different sources to a single high-resolution display, eliminating the need for multiple HD source and preview monitors.

The HS400 accepts optional boards for upconversion of SD and DVI signals to HD. It features 3-D effects, including page turn, an independent aux bus, PIP, DSK and a high-quality chroma key that provides composite images for professional applications such as green screen, news and weather.
